Projects

ARCADIA EARTH | TORONTO

For the third iteration of Arcadia Earth, BOND devised the endless-looping sound design playout system, in partnership with local integrators GAV and sound designer Dave Hodge of Finger Music. Bringing past experiences from NYC and Las Vegas, BOND advised on location and specification of the sound equipment, consulted on the materials and construction methods of the space, and built multi-channel playboack system from a remote location — all without stepping foot in the space.

CASA CARMEN | TRIBECA, FLATIRON (NYC)

A family-owned chain of restaurants in New York’s Tribeca and Flatiron neighborhoods. To complement the intimate vibe of the spaces, with hand-stuccoed walls and decorations crafted by Mexican artisans, the sound system was designed to be warm and comforting.

Discreetly-installed Martin Audio speakers and subwoofers, powered by Crown amplifiers are used, and sound deadening materials help control the acoustics in both locations, to create a relaxed and controlled ambience.

ARCADIA EARTH | LAS VEGAS

Sprawling, environment-themed immersive experience on the Las Vegas strip. Martin Audio loudspeakers and LEA amplifiers, linked to a Dante Audio-Over-IP network acted as the backbone of the system that endlessly looped and played continuously, giving every audience member a totally unique experience. A range of sources, from endless-looping sound design assets, to 5.1 video-synced audio were combined in a centralized system.

The system helped to guide the audience through the multi-room exhibition in a way that complements and emphasizes the narrative of the topics covered in the space. It also included a high-powered sound system component at street level to attract foot traffic.

GRAND BOUCHERIE | NYC

Large-scale indoor/outdoor restaurant in Midtown, which claims to be New York’s largest restaurant. BOND designed and installed a multi-zone, remote-controlled Martin Audio speaker system powered by Crown amplifiers and BSS audio processing, with the design brief of “Paris in the springtime”.

We leaned into the theme of sound everywhere, but ensured the audio component of the space sis not obstruct or interfere with the aesthetic.

ARCADIA EARTH | NYC

A two-floor experiential gallery and exhibition focussing on around environmental sustainability issues. BOND designed a 64-channel endless-looping playback infrastructure with 70+ speakers in 18 themed spaces. We used JBL speakers and a Focusrite RedNet Dante backbone. The initial system used low-cost amplifiers purchased from Amazon, to suit a DIY budget. Originally designed to be a 3-month installation, the exhibition remained open for 3 years. When additional budget became available, we updated the amplifiers to improve performance and reliability.

NICK’S BAR | HOLLYWOOD FL

A mainstay beach bar in the heart of Hollywood, Florida. BOND designed and installed a multi-purpose sound system to serve the daytime and evening events that keep the bar buzzing throughout the year, with a control system that could be easily operated by bar staff, servers and the various performers hosted by the bar.

An important consideration for this project was the harsh environment: being right on the beach, all the equipment is subject to salt spray and direct sunlight. BOND chose JBL’s AWC range of all-weather speakers, often used on cruise ships, for this project, for their ability to withstand the extreme environment.
